Abstract

During wastewater filtration, a huge volume of sludge is produced, which can be used in agriculture. However, the presence of harmful heavy metals and other toxic compounds in sludge limits its use as a fertilizer. The present research was conducted with the aim of obtaining information on the interaction of some properties of Ocimum basilicum under the conditions of sludge application. In this regard, the effects of chemical fertilizer application in the form of four treatments of NPK fertilizer, sludge, sludge + NPK and control in the form of a randomized complete block design in 4 replications was investigated. The results showed that there is a significant difference between treatments in terms of absorption amount and concentration of heavy elements. In the root, only the amount of bromine element in the sludge and fertilizer + sludge, as well as the lithium element in the fertilizer + sludge treatment was higher than the amount of the control, and the amount of accumulation of other elements had no significant difference with it. In the aerial part of the plant, the accumulation of iron, aluminum, and manganese in the fertilizer, copper in the sludge and fertilizer, lithium in the fertilizer+sludge, and, zinc and magnesium in the sludge and fertilizer+sludge were higher than the control . In general, the sewage sludge increased the growth of plant and due to the lower concentration of heavy elements than the standard limit, the application of this material does not cause any problem for this plant.
